What the value proposition checker looks at
Your hero is the headline, subheadline and button a visitor sees before they scroll. The checker reads the three together, the way a visitor does, and scores five things: clarity (do they know what you sell, in plain words), who it's for (a named customer and their problem), outcome (a concrete result, with the subheadline explaining how), why believe it (a specific detail and what makes you different), and the call to action (a button that says what happens next and fits the promise).
Each line in the checklist is a yes/no check you can fix directly, and the score updates as you type, so you can try a sharper headline and watch which checks turn green.
Clarity beats cleverness
A visitor gives a new page a few seconds. A clever or abstract headline ("Reimagine what's possible") makes them work out what you sell; a plain one ("Bookkeeping for Etsy sellers, done in a day") tells them before they've decided whether to care. Buzzwords like next-generation, seamless or all-in-one feel safe to write but say nothing a competitor couldn't also say, so the checker flags them.
How to use it
Paste your current headline, subheadline and button text into the three fields. Read the failing checks first: they are ordered by the part of the hero they belong to. Fix one at a time, starting with clarity and outcome (they count double), and keep claims true. If you don't have a number or customer to cite yet, a specific timeframe or price is still a concrete detail.
When you're stuck, "Fix it for me" rewrites the hero to pass the failing checks and shows the before and after scores. Anything it can't know, like a real result, comes back as a bracketed placeholder for you to fill in.
Headline, subheadline and button do different jobs
The headline carries the promise: who it's for and what changes for them. The subheadline earns belief: how it works, what's included, a number or a timeframe. It should add information, not restate the headline. The button is the next step toward that promise, named for what the visitor gets ("Get my free audit") rather than a generic "Submit" or "Learn more".
Frequently asked questions
What is a value proposition?
A short statement of who you help, what result they get, and why they should choose you over the alternatives. On a website it usually lives in the hero: the headline, the subheadline under it, and the main button.
What counts as a good score?
70 and up is strong: a visitor knows what you sell, who it's for and what to do next. 40–69 usually means one part is missing, most often the specific outcome or a concrete detail. Under 40 means a visitor probably can't tell what you sell.
How is the score calculated?
Each check is a yes/no question answered by an AI scoring model with a probability. Checks are averaged into five dimensions, and clarity and outcome count double in the overall score, because a hero that's unclear or promises nothing fails whatever else it does well.
Can I check just a headline?
The checker needs all three parts, because they're judged together: a vague headline can be rescued by a specific subheadline. For a headline on its own, use the headline analyzer.
